Our Stories

These are the stories of allies and friends of the Coalition which they have each opted to share. Though our experiences and backgrounds are all different; the message remains the same. Equality and respect are deserved for all people, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Amy

My name is Amy and I am a LGBTQ ally. I joined the Lower Shore LGBTQ Coalition because I believe in equality. I believe that it is important to educate the Lower Shore about the LGBTQ community: the stigmas, the statistics, and how we can all play a part in helping these individuals not feel so isolated. Love is a beautiful thing, and everyone should be able to love whomever they choose, without hesitation.

Micaela
Alicia

I have grown up surrounded by multiple friends and family members who identify as LGBTQ. Being young and LGBTQ was simpler for some than others but it was never easy. I joined the coalition because I believe it is hard enough growing up and going through the changes of youth without having to face backlash and discrimination due to a sexual or gender orientation. Through awareness, care and advocacy I truly feel we can educate our community to support and understand our local LGBTQ youth.

Coming Soon

I have been a community organizer for over 25 years working to advocate for issues affecting LGBTQ and HIV+ communities.  I “came out” during my early twenties at the height of the AIDS crisis. Losing so many friends and loved ones impacted my career path by focusing my work towards making the world a more accepting, safer and healthier place for the next generation.  I am an Arab American lesbian who is also an activist. I am a mother, a foster parent, a sister, a daughter, a friend and a community health worker attempting to empower the community with opportunities for positive change. I am also a woman who would like to someday be legally married and share my life with someone that I love.   I am part of the LGBTQ Coalition because I want to be with others who are creating a positive environment for all people and support them through their setbacks and successes.
